📱 AutoSub – Help & Guide

Welcome to AutoSub, your fast and private on-device video translator.
This guide explains every feature and helps you get the best experience from the app.

AutoSub is built to be fully usable from the start. Even on the Free plan, you can translate complete videos of any length, whether a short clip or a long video. There is no video duration limit and no subtitle cutoff. For Free users, the only restriction is the number of daily translations.

🎞 Getting Started

When you open the app, you can import videos from your Photo Library or Files.
You can also share videos directly to AutoSub from other apps.
After importing, choose the correct source language before starting the translation.

🎛 Transcription Models

AutoSub offers two transcription models to suit different needs:

• Fast Model: Transcribes 10 languages quickly with good accuracy.
  Ideal for shorter videos or when speed matters.
  Requires iOS 26+ and does not support Auto-Detect (defaults to English).
• Accurate Model: Supports 50 languages with higher accuracy.
  Best for complex speech and mixed accents.
  Includes Auto-Detect to identify the spoken language automatically.

You can select your preferred transcription model from the Home screen before importing a video.

🌐 Language Support

Source Languages (Transcription):
English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), French, German, Spanish,
Portuguese, Italian, and many more depending on the selected model.

Target Languages (Translation):
Arabic, English (US/UK), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean,
Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Russian, Turkish,
Dutch, Polish, Vietnamese, and more.

🔄 Translation Engines

Choose the translation engine that fits your workflow:

• Apple Translate: Supports 17 languages. Language packs download automatically when needed.
• Google Translate: Supports 50 languages. Languages must be downloaded manually in advance.
• AI Translate (PRO only): Advanced AI-powered translation with selectable models.

Tip: Download frequently used languages in advance for faster translation.

🤖 AI Translate (PRO)

AI Translate provides an additional translation option powered by modern AI models.
It delivers more natural phrasing and better context understanding for challenging content.

• Available models: GPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Qwen
• Model switching: Change your AI model anytime from app settings

Where to change the AI model

Open App Settings → Translation Engine → select AI,
then choose your preferred model under Model.

AI fair usage limits

AI Translate includes generous fair usage limits to keep the service reliable for everyone. If you reach the limit, AutoSub will show an alert and you can continue using Apple Translate or Google Translate until the limits reset.

Reset schedule: Limits reset weekly for Weekly PRO users and monthly for Yearly PRO users. When a limit is reached, the app shows the exact reset date.

⚙️ How Translation Works

After selecting your languages and model, tap Translate.
AutoSub extracts the audio, transcribes it, and translates it.
Subtitles appear in real time as each line is ready.
Progress is saved automatically, even for long videos.

🕒 History & Progress

AutoSub automatically saves your progress for every video:

• In Progress:
  If you close the video player before translation finishes, the video appears in History with an In Progress badge.
• Continue Anytime:
  Open the video from History and tap Continue to resume translation from where it stopped.
• Translated:
  When a video finishes, it shows a Translated badge in History.
• Delete Options:
  Long press on a video in History to manage it:
  • Delete the entire video and all related data
  • Delete translated text only while keeping the original video

• 15-second seek controls
• Playback speed from 0.25x to 2x
• Volume boost up to 300%
• Video rotation
• Player lock
• Show or hide subtitles anytime
• Real-time subtitle appearance during translation
• Smart Translate Button: If you use Apple Translate or Google Translate, the player button shows Translate. If you select AI Translate, the button shows AI Translate so you always know which engine is active.

🎨 Subtitle Customization

• Flexible subtitle positioning
• Font size, weight, and style
• Custom colors and background opacity
• Shadow styles for readability
• Option to show original and translated text together

⏱ Subtitle Synchronization

• Adjust timing from -15s to +15s
• Live preview while adjusting
• Reset to original timing anytime

🗒 Subtitle View & Editing

You can review, edit, and copy subtitles anytime:

• Open View Subtitles to see the full subtitle list.
• Edit: Tap the Edit button to edit any subtitle line.
• Copy: Tap the Copy button to copy the transcript and translation.

🔍 OCR Mode

• Pause the video and select on-screen text
• Instant translation of visible text
• Available for all users

📥 Import SRT Subtitles

You can add subtitles to a video by importing an existing SRT file:

• Open a video and choose Import Existing File.
• Select your .SRT subtitle file to import.
• If the video is not translated yet, AutoSub will keep showing the import sheet so you can import subtitles anytime.

📤 Export Options

SRT Export (PRO only): Export translated subtitles or original transcriptions as SRT files.

Free: Export videos with a watermark
